Philips drops dual-mode monitors to their lowest price with its new Evnia

Get a taste of the dual-mode feature without breaking the bank, and enjoy your content at the best resolution or speed.

Philips has launched Evnia 27M2N3800A, bringing premium features to lower price tiers. Powered by a dual-mode panel, this monitor can switch between two resolutions and refresh rates to suit different games and content, allowing you to experience each in the best way. Having to choose between speed and image quality becomes a thing of the past with this new addition.

Evnia 27M2N3800A is a 27in gaming monitor based on a 4K IPS panel. Thanks to its dual-mode feature, it can switch between 3840×2160 resolution at 160Hz and 1920×1080 at 320Hz, giving you a choice between superior visual and lightning-fast image transitions. In other words, you can get the best of both worlds, whether you like story-driven games or fast-paced shooters. This also makes it perfect for console gaming, as its default specs are above what current Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 can deliver. So, no need to buy two different monitors or shell out for an expensive high refresh 4K model.

In addition to its high speed and sharp image, 27M2N3800A also boasts great colour reproduction, with Philips touting coverage of 95% DCI-P3 and 130% sRGB colour gamuts. You also get VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification, further transforming the image with popping colours and bursting light. That said, Philips didn’t equip this model with any local dimming zones, meaning that the overall HDR experience will be limited.

The rest of the specs are quite typical for IPS panels, offering 1,000:1 contrast and 350nits of brightness in SDR, with HDR pushing things a bit to 450nits. Pixel response time is also average at 1ms GtG, with the possibility to improve it using Smart MBR which enhances clarity by strobing the backlight between each frame to reduce image persistence / motion blur.

The 27M2N3800A is also designed for users’ comfort and convenience, bundling handy features like ShadowBoost to boost visibility in dark scenes, Smart Crosshair to improve aiming accuracy by changing the crosshair’s colour according to the background, and Smart Sniper to further zoom in on faraway enemies. Multi-taskers aren’t forgotten either, as the MultiView feature allows multiple devices to be displayed side by side simultaneously.

Connectivity-wise, you get two HDMI 2.1, one DisplayPort 1.4, plus a headphone jack. Also, note that the 27M2N3800A incorporates two 2W speakers if needed.  As for ergonomics, the stand can be adjusted in height by 130mm, pivot by 90°, swivel by 30°, and tilt from -5° to 20°.

Overall, Evnia 27M2N3800A looks a lot like a sleeker version of the AOC U27G4R that can fit on an office desk. Evnia is also cheaper at £279 when comparing MSRPs, though you can also find AOC discounted to £279. I prefer Evnia’s design, but to each their own.
