Intel Core Ultra 9 285K
“Intel’s latest desktop processors mark a fundamental shift in design thinking.” Read our review.
On Amazon US, Core Ultra 9 285K is now just $474.98. That’s down a chunky 21% ($124.02) from the processor’s list price. Meanwhile, Amazon UK are selling the CPU for £469.99, down 22% (£130) from RRP. Whatever region you’re buying from, you’ll be paying the lowest ever price for the chip.
As Tarinder highlights in his Core Ultra 9 285K review, this isn’t the same old processor design from Intel. The brand has placed great focus on improving the efficiency of its CPU stock, essentially combining the performance of Raptor Lake (Core i9-14900K) with the more-reasonable power draws of Lunar Lake (Core Ultra 200).
In terms of core specifications, Core Ultra 9 285K arrives with 24 cores (8 P-cores, 16 E-cores), 24 threads, a maximum turbo frequency of 5.7GHz, and a 125-250W TDP range. Even without support for hyperthreading, Intel has crafted a well-balanced processor that can compete at the high-end.

Take a look at the graphs above, illustrating Cinebench 2024 performance and power consumption. Core Ultra 9 285K enjoys a 7-12% lead over its predecessor across single and multithread benchmarks, all while consuming up to 17% fewer watts.
Less power means lower temperatures too, with Core Ultra 9 285K operating noticeably cooler by 13.8% according to our tests. Of course, you should still equip the chip with suitably high-end cooling to get the best performance out of it.
Core Ultra 200 Series processors may have had a bumpy launch, but in the near-year since release the processor has come a long way. Performance improvements combined with price cuts make the likes of Core Ultra 9 285K far easier to recommend for your next build.
