As memory prices venture into the realms of surrealism, one of the best PC upgrades you can buy right now is a new OLED gaming monitor. MSI has just unleashed a load of Christmas discounts across its range, meaning you can now pick up a 240Hz OLED monitor for just £399. There’s never been a better time to leave the world of IPS behind, and pick up a new HDR screen with lightning-quick response times, inky blacks, and vibrant colours.

£599 £399
“It boasts a 2560 x 1440 (WQHD) next-gen QD-OLED panel, 240Hz refresh rate, and rapid 0.03ms (GtG) response time.“ – MSI
At its current price, you get a huge saving of £200 compared to this monitor’s £599 MSRP, and you get a great spec. The main draw, of course, is that QD-OLED panel. Brace yourself for a vivid picture with bright, accurate colours and high contrast. What’s more, with its DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification, blacks will be deep on this screen, rather than looking grey and washed out. It’s a QD-OLED panel, as well, which we’ve found makes black text look sharper on white backgrounds than with rival WOLED screens.
Importantly, with its OLED panel’s super-fast response time, this monitor will display your gaming action quickly and smoothly. Its 240Hz refresh rate helps here, ensuring it can keep up with fast frame rates from your GPU. There’s also official Nvidia G-Sync compatibility, as well plus AMD FreeSync Premium Pro support, meaning this screen will adjust its refresh rate on the fly in line with your graphics card’s frame rate, so you don’t get any tearing artifacts.
We tested the 50-inch version of this screen in our MSI MAG 272QP QD-OLED X50 review, and were blown away by the screen’s quality. The 27-inch model on offer doesn’t have a 500Hz refresh rate, of course, but its 240Hz speed is great for just £399. Meanwhile, its 2560×1440 resolution is ideal for the 27in screen size. Games will look much sharper than with a 1920×1080 resolution, and unlike a 4K screen, you won’t need a ridiculous amount of GPU power to play games at native res.
You might not be able to get a cheap memory upgrade right now, but it’s a fantastic time to grab yourself a new monitor. For more deals on the latest PC hardware, make sure you follow our Club386 Google News feed.
