“Enjoy smooth gaming with P9 Express, which works with Nintendo Switch 2. Featuring PCIe technology for high-speed performance and Dynamic Thermal Guard (DTG) to maintain optimal temperatures.” – Samsung

Unlike the original Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 uses microSD Express cards, rather than old-school standard microSD. These new cards use the PCIe bus, much like a new M.2 PC drive, and they’re massively quicker than even the fastest non-Express cards. Samsung quotes sequential read speeds of up to 800MB/s for the P9 Express, for example, while you won’t get more than 104MB/s out of a microSD card using a standard UHS-I interface, as used in both the Steam Deck and original Switch.

MicroSD Express cards aren’t cheap, though, with prices usually hovering around the $50 mark for a 256GB upgrade, and there’s no backward compatibility either – you can’t put a standard microSD card in a Switch 2 and just put up with slower storage. That’s a bitter pill to swallow when you can pick up a 512GB standard microSD card for less money. As such, this latest Samsung deal makes all the difference if you’re looking to add more storage to your Switch 2, or indeed any other device that takes microSD Express cards – $32.99 is an exceptionally good price for this upgrade.

Nintendo Switch 2 comes with 256GB of storage space as standard, which might be 8x as much as the original Switch, but it still gets eaten up quickly. It only takes a Fortnite install with several add-ons, plus Cyberpunk 2077, to wipe out loads of that space. You’ll need to be quick, though, as Amazon says this deal will only be available for a limited time.
