We were very pleasantly surprised to spot this remarkably generous £379 Dell 15 Laptop DC15250 deal on Amazon just now, not least because it’s kitted out with 16GB of RAM. Even now, we often see budget laptops squeaking by with just 8GB of memory, and given the current RAM pricing chaos, it’s really unusual to see a 16GB machine going for such a low price.
It’s not one of the latest models, naturally, and the 16GB of memory is DDR4 rather than DDR5, but the spec is still capable enough for most people’s working needs.
An Intel Core i5-1334U Raptor Lake chip handles processing duties, giving you 10 cores, which is a solid inclusion at this price. Bear in mind that only two of these are P-Cores, while the other eight are power-efficient E-Cores. That’s still a decent balance for a mobile office machine, though, giving you two cores to handle lightly-threaded workloads with a 4.6GHz boost clock, while the E-Cores busy themselves in the background on multi-threaded tasks.
You also get a 15in 1920×1080 Full HD screen, which even has a 120Hz refresh rate to keep motion smooth. Meanwhile, the 512GB SSD gives you enough room to store Windows and plenty of software.
Unsurprisingly, there’s no discrete GPU here, and the integrated Intel Iris Xe GPU isn’t going to be up to playing much in the way of games either. However, if you just want a cheap new laptop to take office work on the move, this machine is a bargain for £379 (down from £479), especially with 16GB of RAM installed.
With the current issues with RAM prices, even a single 16GB DDR4 SODIMM costs at least £90 at the moment, and having a decent amount of memory will enable you to flick between software packages without twiddling your thumbs.
This offer is only available in the UK, and is listed as a limited-time deal. You can buy a laptop with the same model name for $375 from Amazon in the US, but bear in mind it only comes with 8GB of memory and a less powerful CPU.
