Samsung’s huge OLED gaming monitor has an even bigger deal

A deal as big as the display.

Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 gaming monitor plummets in price.

Multi-monitor setups are quickly becoming archaic with the rise in superwide monitors, which combine the handiness of two displays into one. No pesky middle bezel blocking your view while you’re in the cockpit of an F1 car or aeroplane. Thankfully, Samsung has stretched one of its QD-OLED panels to fit the form factor, and it’s far cheaper than it’s ever been.

Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 is a 49in mega monitor, with DQHD resolution. That stands for double quad high-definition, which is essentially two 1440p displays side-by-side. It’s so huge that you could confuse its 1800R curve as trying to give you a hug, but that’s all part of the immersion.

“Immense worlds envelop you through a super ultrawide display. A screen as wide as two quad high definition monitors delivers maximum space to take in all the pin-sharp detail.”

Over on Amazon UK, the savings are just as big as the screen. Offering 42% off, £805 is the lowest price I’ve ever seen. It’s a similar story across the Atlantic, with the same model falling to $999.99, a touch above its previous best.

I’m quite taken with Samsung’s QD-OLED panels, thanks to the Quantum Dot layer. This adds blue pixels that enhance brightness and make colours that much bolder. As always, organic light-emitting diodes also give it true blacks, an infinite contrast ratio, and lightning-fast 0.03ms response times. In this case, that’s paired with DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification, too.

Although I’ve yet to review this particular model, the same panel appears on plenty of the best gaming monitors, including my Gigabyte Aorus CO49DQ review. The only difference is that Samsung boasts a faster 240Hz refresh rate. You’ll need a lot of horsepower to hit that ceiling in games, but it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Even just seeing my cursor glide along smoother than ever is satisfying enough.

As usual, this is a limited-time deal in all regions, so I recommend snapping it up before it’s gone. If you’re not happy, just send it back within 30 days, and you’ll get a full refund. That’s the Amazon guarantee.
