New Gigabyte monitor marks a world-first for QD-OLED motion clarity

QD-OLED monitors gets a potential new value champion as Gigabyte launches MO27Q2A.

Gigabyte has announced the availability of its first 280Hz QHD QD-OLED monitor, boasting characteristics that should make it attractive to plenty of prospective buyers. With an emphasis on image clarity and HDR reproduction, this display claims to do it all, from media consumption to competitive gaming.

MO27Q2A is a QHD (2560×1440) gaming monitor, rocking a 27in QD-OLED panel from Samsung. The screen boasts a 280Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms GtG response time, making it suitable for the fast-paced action of esports games. It’s also the first of its specification to receive a VESA ClearMR 15000 certification, describing its exceptionally blur-free visuals. Add to that black frame insertion (BFI) and it’s hard to compete with this level of motion clarity.

ClearMR is a relatively new metric that measures motion blur in digital displays, providing a numerical value based on the ratio of clear to blurry pixels. Upcoming 500Hz displays may have an advantage due to their faster panels, but at this product tier, MO27Q2A is a rock solid choice.

Speed aside, MO27Q2A should provide fantastic image quality thanks to its quantum dot layer, allowing the panel to cover 99% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. Gigabyte claims the screen will feature an average Delta E of less than two, meaning there should be no major issues with colour accuracy. Furthermore, thanks to OLED’s per-pixel dimming capabilities, HDR should look excellent, complemented by 1,000nit peak brightness. More specifically, this monitor can reach 250nits at 100% APL, and 1,000nits at 3% APL (Average Picture Level).

Gamers will also enjoy tear-free visuals using G-Sync Compatible and FreeSync Premium Pro devices, including consoles through the 120Hz mode. MO27Q2A even supports native scaling, allowing for the deployment of 4:3 and 5:4 aspect ratios without risk of warping. Lastly, the brand’s OLED care features help keep the panel in good condition by running automated procedures meant to reduce the risk of burn-in.

In terms of ergonomics, MO27Q2A offers -5° to 21° tilt, 90° pivot, 15° swivel, and 130mm height adjustment. Connectivity is also well rounded, including two HDMI 2.1, one DisplayPort 1.4, one USB Type-C with DP Alt mode and 18W power delivery, a headphone jack, plus a two-port USB 3.2 hub. The latter works in tandem with the built-in KVM switch, supporting PiP and PbP modes. Two 5W speakers are also present in case you need them.

At $499, MO27Q2A could easily sit among the best options in this price range, not forgetting the included three-year burn-in warranty.
