Philips has released a new high refresh QD-OLED gaming monitor targeting (relatively) budget gamers and first-timers. At £399, the Evnia 27M2N6501L offers the lowest entry to OLED-based displays in its range, making it hard to pass by. A stark difference compared to RAM prices, which are going through the roof, right? So, if you have been holding off on joining the OLED crowd due to the technology’s inherent cost, this one may be your ticket to excellent HDR gaming and crystal-clear motion.
The Evnia 27M2N6501L joins the brand’s 6000 series alongside excellent options such as the Evnia 34M2C6500, but this time trading the ultra-wide resolution for a higher 240Hz refresh rate. While not as fast as the Evnia 27M2N8500’s 360Hz, it is still more than enough for its target audience, encapsulating users who are moving from LCD-type displays to OLEDs for the first time. And, considering that the pixel response is the same 0.03ms GtG, the Evnia 27M2N6501L won’t have much to envy its bigger siblings. Heck, it even features Philips’ AI-enhanced Ambiglow, which analyses incoming content and emits coloured light around the monitor to improve immersion.

With this budget option, Philips opts for the popular 27in size at QHD (2560×1440) resolution, offering a nice mix of image sharpness and comfort. Aside from its lower cost, this resolution will also be easier to drive by the PCs typically used by potential buyers, who may not own the latest and greatest GPUs. Console players aren’t left behind either, as the Evnia 27M2N6501L supports the full speed of Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 machines via its HDMI ports.
Being OLED-based, you will find per-pixel local dimming, ensuring true HDR representation with inky blacks and punchy highlights. Though note that the latter is a weak point of OLEDs in general, as they can’t go as bright as LCDs. Add to this QD-OLED’s renowned gamut coverage, reaching 98% of Adobe RGB and 99% of DCI-P3, and you have an excellent gaming and content consumption display.

Moving to I/O, you will find two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4, a headphone jack, plus a two-port USB hub. Two video streams can be displayed out of these at the same time using MultiView, allowing you to operate multiple devices at once. Lastly, for ergonomics, you get a full complement of adjustment, from height and tilt, to pivot and swivel, not to forget a VESA mount.

Though these specs are nothing special for a QD-OLED monitor, its price is. At £399, the Evnia 27M2N6501L will be the cheapest option rocking such specs, and that’s including discounted models such as Asus’ ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG and MSI’s MAG 273QP QD-OLED X24. All of this while being backed by a three-year burn-in warranty.
