Today is an important day for the humble pizza. On this day in 2007, the culinary art of Neapolitan Pizzaiuolo was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, says Google. Incidentally, Google is celebrating this day with an interactive “puzzle game” Doodle, which you can find via the link.
Of course, pizzas are a lot older than 2007. The first written references to pizza date back to AD 997, in Italy, but the bread with molten cheesy toppings food as we recognise it was possibly consumed in Ancient Greece. Pizza is a favourite food among technophiles, and it is estimated that five billion pizzas are consumed every year.
