Beautiful and bombastic as gaming and workstation towers can be, sometimes the most impressive computers are those in the smallest of chassis. Take Mac Mini M4, a proper petite powerhouse. While Apple products typically command an inescapable premium, this system just returned to its best ever price.

Apple Mac Mini M4

“Now with M4 and M4 Pro, Mac Mini delivers tremendous performance and next-level AI capabilities.” – Apple

On Amazon US, the minute but mighty Mac Mini M4 can be yours for $689, down 14% ($110) from its list price. While not the cheapest SKU, this version does come complete with 512GB of storage, double that of the base model. As a reminder, this is the most affordable this configuration’s ever been on the storefront.

Measuring just 5in across and 2in high, Mac Mini is proof that bigger isn’t always better. At the heart of the small aluminium shell is a potent processor, Apple M4. This in-house silicon, featuring a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine, delivers exceptionally efficient performance.

There’s surprisingly only 22W running through Mac Mini M4’s processor. While Apple could feed the silicon more watts, this would undoubtedly spoil the balance the manufacturer’s created between acoustics and size. This system runs near-silent for the majority of its operation and won’t throw out massive amounts of heat into your workspace either.

Apple makes smart use of the space available on Mac Mini, outfitting the system with a surprisingly robust plethora of ports. Up front, you have two 10Gb USB-C connections and a headphone jack for day-to-day connectivity. Round the back is where things get spicier, with 1Gb Ethernet, HDMI, and three Thunderbolt 4 ports each offering 40Gb of bandwidth and DP Alt. Mode.

The only real caveat to Mac Mini comes down to RAM and storage. Apple solders both, meaning neither are user upgradable. While it’s possible to supplement the latter with external drives, there’s no changing the amount of memory. So, make sure you’ve got enough for your use case before pulling the trigger on a purchase.
