Here’s a welcome piece of good news in an industry saddled with price hikes all over the place – you can now buy an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D from Amazon UK for just £286. That’s Amazon’s lowest ever price for this acclaimed 8-core gaming CPU, according to price trackers, knocking 36% off the original launch MSRP. If you’re in the US, you can also pick up this CPU for $348.99, which isn’t a record low, but is still a reasonable price for a CPU that averages $373.26.

This latest price cut comes hot on the heels of AMD rereleasing its acclaimed Ryzen 7 5800X3D, which is now going for £314.99, a good £28.99 more than the faster 7800X3D. The reason is all down to current market conditions. DDR5 RAM is now very expensive, so owners of AM4 systems are looking to reuse their existing DDR4 memory when they upgrade their CPU.

The knock-on effect is that the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is now going for a more wallet-friendly price. For context, it doesn’t usually go for that original £449.99 MSRP these days, as it’s since been usurped by the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and 9850X3D. However, this new low of £286 remains a good price for this 8-core CPU, particularly if gaming is your top priority.

That’s because this chip is loaded with a whole extra chip of cache that sits on top of its 8-core chiplet. Unlike a usual 8-core AMD chip, such as the Ryzen 7 7700X, which has 32MB of L3 cache, the 7800X3D has 96MB of this super-fast local memory. That really helps when it comes to gaming, even if its 5GHz clock speed is comparatively next to the 5.6GHz Ryzen 7 9850X3D.

You will need DDR5 RAM for this chip, though, and that doesn’t come cheap at the moment, thanks to the current crisis surrounding RAM prices. If you’re already rocking some DDR5 memory in an Intel 12th-gen rig, or if you’re looking to step up from a less-capable AM5 CPU, such as a Ryzen 5 7600, then this discounted 7800X3D is a great gaming upgrade.

If you’re still using an AM4 system, on the other hand, your best bet is to pick up the current best DDR4 CPU for gaming, which is the rereleased Ryzen 7 5800X3D.
