Crucial P310 2230
“A miniature SSD that makes a huge impact, designed from the ground up for your Steam Deck.” Read our review.
What’s more, this drive is much faster than a microSD card. In fact, if you own a handheld that supports PCIe 4.0 SSDs, such as the Asus ROG Ally X, then it can read at a peak sequential speed of up to 7,100MB/s, with a top write speed of 6,000MB/s. Even if you own a PCIe 3.0 device like the Steam Deck, though, you’ll still be able to get speeds of around 3,500MB/s out of it.
We gave this drive a full work out in our Crucial P310 review, where it managed to record a peak read speed of 6,434MB/s in our test motherboard. Our main criticism at the time was its high price of $214.99, but that complaint is completely solved with this current deal price.
That’s a massive speed boost over the 105MB/s maximum you can get out of a microSD card in the Deck, and it gives you a huge amount of storage space to install loads of games as well. There’s just one word of warning, which is that upgrading the SSD in your Steam Deck requires you to take a screwdriver to the back of it, and unplug a few ribbon cables, before you can slot it into place. It’s also wise to have a USB-C thumb drive handy so you can reinstall SteamOS on it.
What’s more, the 1TB version of this drive is also currently on offer, and while it doesn’t offer you the same level of price per gigabyte as the 2TB drive, it still has a pretty good price of $80.74.
Bear in mind that you’ll need to be an Amazon Prime member to take advantage of both these deals, but you can sign up for a free 30-day trial if you’re not a member already.
