AOC speeds into 540Hz arena with Agon Pro AG246FK monitor

Strictly for the pros.

AOC is prepped to go head-to-head with the likes of the Asus ROG Swift Pro PG248QP with a 540Hz refresh-rate monitor solution of its own.

The firm’s latest addition arrives under the AGON Pro umbrella and goes by the name AG246FK. For those who are serious about competitive gaming, AOC’s specifications are akin to a cheat sheet.

The headline 540Hz peak refresh rate is aligned to a 0.2ms GtG response time across a 24.1in TN panel touting the ubiquitous 1080p resolution. If you’re of the opinion both screen size and pixel count are lacking, you aren’t the target market.

Europe’s leading gaming monitor manufacturer is adamant there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to PC displays. Esports pros continue to gravitate toward smaller full-HD solutions, where maximum response and minimal latency assist in competitive gameplay.

To that end, the list of extras is relatively sparse by today’s standards. High dynamic range is limited to basic HDR400 standards, the four-port USB hub doesn’t include a KVM, and as a TN panel, viewing angles aren’t going to be anything to write home about. More importantly for the gaming audience, you do get support for adaptive sync and motion blur reduction, as well as a convenient headset holder.

Esports panels at this end of the market tend to attract a hefty premium, yet at €699 (UK pricing to be confirmed), the AG246FK will undercut Asus by at least a couple of hundred pounds when it arrives on the market in July.

If the TN element provides cause for concern, there will be a similarly speedy IPS alternative. The AG256FS, also arriving in July, swaps the 24.1in TN for a 24.5in fast IPS. The trade-off is the refresh rate tops out at 390Hz, with a 1ms GtG response time, albeit at a lower fee of €449.
