Catch ’em all: Razer releases Pokémon keyboard, mouse, and headset

Don’t let hardware stop you from being the very best.

Razer has partnered with The Pokémon Company to launch a new series of custom products featuring the beloved Pokémon characters. Initially launched for the Asian market, this fan-favourite collaboration is now coming to new territories, including the United States, Latin America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

Following the translucent Phantom Collection, Razer is back with a new set of Pokémon-themed peripherals featuring Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. This collection includes customised versions of the BlackWidow V4 X keyboard, Cobra mouse, Kraken V4 headset, and Gigantus V2 M mouse mat. All feature nicely-coloured drawings of the four starter Pokémons Ash had to choose from in the original anime series.

Aside from the pretty paint job, these custom models are all identical to their regular black variants. The BlackWidow V4 X keyboard gives you Razer’s third-gen mechanical switches, six macro buttons, plus the controversial Snap Tap feature. The Cobra mouse offers you a 58g lightweight design with optical switches for excellent durability and speed. The Kraken V4 headset brings games to life with its immersive and clear sound stage while packing a retractable mic, plus Razer’s Sensa HD for haptic feedback. Lastly, the Gigantus V2 M mouse mat lands you an optimised area for smooth and precise mouse movements. As customary with Razer, all peripherals feature its Chroma RGB lighting.

While the headset and mouse pad look nice, I feel like there is too much going on with the mouse and especially the keyboard. A better move, in my opinion, would have been to customise each peripheral in the colours of one Pokémon. For example, a Pikachu headset with bunny ears like the Razer Kraken Kitty – but removable, a mouse painted like Squirtle’s shell, and a keyboard covered in leaves or fire to symbolise Bulbasaur or Charizard.

The Pokémon edition of the BlackWidow V4 X keyboard, Cobra mouse, and Kraken V4 headset are available on Razor’s store at £169.99, £59.99, and £99.99, respectively. In other words, you pay between £20 and £40 extra compared to base models for the pleasure of owning these unique products. The mouse pad isn’t listed yet, but you can expect it to retail between £10 and £50 depending on the sizes available.
