Philips means business with 5K2K 40in ultrawide featuring Thunderbolt 4 support

Strictly business, baby.

Philips Side

Phillips has today unleashed a 40in behemoth screen featuring ultrawide 5K2K real estate and a variety of features thanks to an accompanying Thunderbolt 4 docking station.

Officially dubbed the 40B1U6903CH, the display is a beauty, an ultra-wide IPS that features an expansive 5120×2160 resolution at 75Hz for crispy clean visuals and fine details. It also carries DisplayHDR 400 certification and provides 400 nits peak brightness, with 178° viewing angles and a subtle 2500R curvature. Colour accuracy is king covering 134 per cent sRGB and 98 per cent of the wider, DCI-P3 gamut. Nice.

Philips Front

Intended primarily for the business and creator market, its crowning glory would have to be the inclusion of a Thunderbolt 4 docking station for ultra-speedy transfers with up to 40Gbps of bidirectional bandwidth and 90W power delivery for connected devices. She goes both ways.

As such, I/O features a variety of ports including; four USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, a single USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C with 45W charging, plus USB Type-B plus Thunderbolt 4 15W upstream connections. Meanwhile, video options include two HDMI 2.0 ports, a single DisplayPort 1.4 and, of course, a single Thunderbolt 4 port that is capable of upstream, data, video and 90W power delivery. Rounding off, there is also a combination headphone jack for audio, as well as Gigabit Ethernet. Whew.

Ideal for the workplace, Philips even shoehorns an integrated 5MP webcam, which the company says is optimised for video conferencing calls and features a noise cancelling microphone for high-quality audio. What’s more, integrated IR sensors provide Windows Hello biometrics, allowing for speedy access and account log in. A nice touch.

Moving on, flexibility can be a challenge for monitors of this magnitude, yet Philips still finds a way to meet most users’ needs. The included Ergo Base features -5/15-degree tilt, up to 45-degree swivel, and 150mm height adjustment, ensuring you’re always in the ideal viewing position.

Philips Rear

Additional features include a side-mounted headphone hook because, well, even pros like to game, a built-in KVM switch allowing for multiple PC management with a single keyboard and mouse, Eyesafe-certified blue light protection, and a customary PowerSensor that Phillips reckons will save up to 80 per cent in energy costs by automatically reducing screen brightness when the user steps away. A well rounded affair.

The catch? A monitor of these proportions naturally carries a premium. Philips’ 40B1U6903CH 40in business monitor will be available to purchase this month priced at £1,499.99.
