Tempting as the feeling of picking up tech upon release is, there’s a unique satisfaction that comes with waiting for those first discounts. Sony WH-1000XM6 has resolutely stuck to its MSRP since launch, back in May, but the headphones have now finally fallen in price.
Amazon US is listing WH-1000XM6 for $428, saving you 5% ($21.99) relative to the headphone’s list price. This only applies to the ‘Black’ colourway at the time of writing, but the ‘Platinum Silver’ model was temporarily available with the same discount and will likely be once again.
WH-1000XM6 further cement Sony’s place as the undisputed champions of active noise cancelling (ANC). These headphones combine 12 microphones with its QN3 processor to deliver an unmatched listening other, keeping the noise of the outside world at bay so you can easily immerse yourself in your favourite music.
Important as ANC is, WH-1000XM6 doesn’t skimp when it comes to sound quality. Sony developed its new generation of headphones in partnership with renowned mastering engineers to craft a satisfying sound signature, outfitting the cans with carbon fibre drivers to keep frequencies as tight as possible.
A wider headband covered in supportive leatherette make wearing WH-1000XM6 for hours on end effortless. While I wish Sony opted for a stepped slider, the overall comfort levels offered by these 254g headphones make this preference easy to let slide.
Sony rightly caught some flak for forgoing a foldable design on its prior generation headphones, but WH-1000XM6 right this wrong. This makes them much easier to slot into your backpack, with or without their included hardshell carrying case.
You can expect around 30 hours of battery life from WH-1000XM6 on a single charge, more than enough for the day. Should you forget to juice these headphones up, though, you can fill them up with several hours playback in just a few minutes thanks to their fast charging USB-C port.
