You can now nab an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D for $569, a cool $130 under MSRP and marking a return to the CPU’s lowest ever price. While the processor appears more expensive on the surface, manually activating a coupon on the product page will shave off that crucial $30 and bring the cost of the chip down to its most-affordable level.

When we first reviewed the 9950X3D back in March 2025, we described the processor as offering “the very best processing power on the market” and that description has remained largely true. While the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 now serves as AMD’s flagship AM5 CPU, the chip doesn’t offer any significant performance advantages over the firm’s previous reigning champion and is far more expensive.
For those unfamiliar with this multi-core monster, the 9950X3D packs 16 Zen 5 cores and 32 threads complete with a 5.7GHz maximum boost clock. That’s not forgetting the processor’s large pool of L3 cache, totalling 128MB thanks to AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology. This combination of specifications makes the CPU an excellent choice for both gaming and productivity.


As you can see from the Cinebench 2026 charts above, the 9950X3D enjoys podium positions across single thread and multiple thread benchmarks. While not the absolute fastest in either category, the race is always close between the CPU and its two main rivals, namely the 9950X3D2 and Intel Core Ultra 270K Plus.
While the 270K Plus remains a worthy competitor to the 9950X3D, chip versus chip, the latter is the smarter buy for the long term. AMD plans to support the AM5 platform through 2029, meaning motherboards you buy now for the Ryzen will have a drop-in upgrade path available a few years down the line. Meanwhile, the Core Ultra processor will alaways be the most-powerful option on LGA1851, as Intel prepares to move to the LGA1954 socket.


The Ryzen 7 9800X3D remains the top pick for gaming, but you can expect performance similar to that processor in most games. Despite rocking more cores and cache, the dual-die design of the 9950X3D can create some relatively small performance dips. Regardless, frame rates remain pleasingly high on the CPU.
Cyberpunk 2077 serves as an example of one of the 9950X3D’s aforementioned frame rate dips, relative to the 9800X3D. However, the chip is within a whisker of catching up to its sibling in the likes of 9800X3D. These charts reflect stock performance, and you can turn the 9950X3D into a pseudo 9800X3D of sorts by disabling one of the CCDs via the BIOS if you’re keen to claw back that extra fps.
Summarily, were I putting together a powerhouse PC today, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D would be my first choice regardless of price. I share that recommendation all the more strongly given the processor’s current price.
