We can still see Amazon’s Spring sale in our rearview mirror, but that doesn’t mean discounts are done. In fact, the savings are far from over. AMD’s magnificent Ryzen 7 5800X CPU is more than half its average price.

You can get the eight-core, 16-thread processor 55% cheaper on Amazon US, bringing the price down to just $200.21. It’s only ever been cheaper once, during Black Friday 2023. It’s a similar story with the Amazon UK deal, which chops 58% off for a new £176.99 price tag. It was cheaper once during last year’s holiday sale, but this new deal is only £6 more.

And we wouldn’t forget our friends in Europe, who can get between 47% and 51% off depending on your location. Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be any deals in Germany, but France and Italy both see reductions.

Its newfound affordability puts it in a similar price bracket to Ryzen 7 5700X, but 5800X is far more powerful. Running at 105W with a 3.8GHz base and 4.7GHz boost clock, the previous generation chip holds its own even in 2024. Sure, we see a 6% to 11% boost in our current-gen AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D review, but you’ll be paying 92% more for the privilege. Putting it that way, it’s a no-brainer.

Your main consideration will be the socket. Running on AM4, you have plenty more options for motherboards than the later AM5, but you are restricted to 3,200MHz DDR4 memory. It’s hardly an issue, given you’ll still get great frame rates in 1080p and even 1440p games. Besides, AMD seems adamant on supporting the platform even in 2024.

As always, you don’t just need to take my word that it’s a great deal. You can try it for yourself, as Amazon’s 30-day return policy means you can get a full refund within a month if you’re not happy. You don’t even need to be a Prime subscriber to get your money back, even if it comes with its own benefits.
