Well, that was quick. A week after AMD’s global Radeon RX 7900 GRE launch, prices are already coming down. Here on UK shores, Overclockers is leading the charge with an ASRock Challenger model unexpectedly reduced to £509.99. That’s a healthy £20 saving and serves to make a potent card all the more tempting.

Club386 put the new Radeon up against price-comparable GeForce RTX 4070 and found the two are closely matched. While the latter bossed proceedings in the raytracing and AI frame generation departments, the Radeon wins in rasterisation and memory capacity. A head-to-head so evenly contested is great competition and good news for gamers as price jostling ensues.

While it’s unusual for a GPU discount so quickly after launch, there are good reasons for the swift adjustment. Browsing the virtual shelves confirms that rival GeForce RTX 4070 has dipped to £499.99 for the first time. It’s quickly becoming a five-hundred-pound battleground. Which to go for depends entirely on user preference, or indeed whether or not your gaming blood flows Red or Green.

If you prefer buying decisions to be based on hard-and-fast numbers rather than brand association, our head-to-head comparison has all the benchmarks you need. Either way, the mid-range space is worth keeping a close eye on, as price cuts may well become more common across multiple regions. At these prices, there’s good reason to reconsider a long overdue upgrade from prior generations.
