There’s no denying that Apple has something of a stranglehold on mindshare when it comes to laptops, with its MacBook Air proving extremely popular. That’s for good reason, of course, and the newest versions of the system are nothing short of excellent. Thankfully, if you’ve had your eye on one for some time, you can pick one up right now and save a good chunk of change.

With the perfectly portable MacBook Air, you’ll be ready to take on just about anything, anywhere.” – Apple

Over on Amazon US, you’ll find MacBook Air 13 for as little as $849. You’ll pay this price regardless of which colourway you pick, but this marks the lowest ever price for the ‘Silver’ option and a return to its most-affordable cost for ‘Starlight’. Meanwhile, in the UK, now’s the time to grab ‘Sky Blue’ and ‘Midnight’.

This generation of MacBook Air packs a suite of subtle upgrades that make it a a proper portable powerhouse. Under its slender and lightweight hood, lies the base Apple M4 chip, offering 10 CPU cores (up from the 8 of prior iterations), as well as 8 GPU cores. Most welcome, though, is the 16GB of unified memory, double that of its predecessors.

All these specifications come together, in tandem with the 13.6in Liquid Retina display, to create a system that punches well above its literal (1.24kg / 2.7lbs) and metaphorical weight. MacBook Air makes short work of general productivity, but its ability to handle more professional workloads like video editing are thoroughly surprising.

If you’re someone that longs to pair their MacBook Air with multiple external screens, you’re in luck. With this new Apple Silicon, you now have three displays total at your fingertips, including the laptop’s panel. This is one of the reasons I swore off previous versions, so I’m glad to see it addressed now.

The only word of caution I offer to anyone considering picking up MacBook Air is the non-upgradeable 256GB of internal storage. You can offset this through external drives or the cloud, but this will take a degree of management and discipline that you should prepare for.
