In a world where NAND is in ever-increasingly short supply, finding SSD deals becomes more difficult by the day. However, there are still some storage sales out there if you know where to look, netting you flagship drives including Sandisk’s WD_Black SN8100 at a more-affordable price.

On Amazon UK, you’ll find WD_Black SN8100 1TB up for grabs at £144.98. That’s 8% (£15) off RRP, and marks the lowest ever price in the region. Meanwhile, Amazon US are selling the same SSD for $139.99, down 33% ($68) from list pricing.

WD_Black SN8100 1TB arrives with blisteringly-fast sequential read speeds of 14,900MB/s, putting the M.2 at the top of the stack as PCIe Gen 5 SSDs go. Write speeds are lower at 11,000MB/s on account of drive capacity, but remains plenty fast for pretty much all tasks.

Those scorching speeds don’t result in high operating temperatures. In my testing, with the 2TB model, the drive peaked at 55°C under load. This makes the SSD one of the coolest on the market by our measure, but note this was while using my motherboard’s built-in heatsink.

In terms of longevity, Sandisk rates WD_Black SN8100 drive endurance at 600TBW. To hit this, you’d need to fill the SSD 600 times, the equivalent of installing Battlefield 6 more than 68,000 times. More pressingly, a five-year warranty covers your storage purchase.

You can always check on the health of your WD_Black SN8100 via Sandisk Dashboard. It’s a worthy successor to Western Digital’s software, providing a means of enhancing your SSD via firmware updates and more.
