Give your streams extra crispness with the Corsair Elgato 4K Facecam

Another tool to enhance your online presence without the cost or complexity of professional setups.

Corsair has launched the Elgato Facecam 4K, a high-quality webcam said to bring DSLR-level video recording to mainstream creators. Built around the Sony Starvis 2 sensor, it offers cinematic image processing and smooth uncompressed UHD footage, alongside advanced tuning flexibility. It also supports 49mm lens filters, allowing you to apply different effects such as starbursts and diffusion.

The Facecam 4K is designed for content creators who want to have deeper control over their recordings, offering easily accessible settings and effects. With its optimised focus area, you can be sure you are always in focus, while maintaining a great 4K video quality. Those who want to preserve even the smallest details can record in HDR, though the video frame rate drops from 60fps to 30fps. This makes it a perfect companion to the brand’s 4K60 external capture card, allowing you to have a fully-enabled HDR pipeline for your content creation.

These video feeds can be encoded in YUY2, NV12, or MJPG formats, giving you more flexibility depending on your workflow. Just note that depending on the type you choose, the maximum video frame rate may be lower. Also, if connected to a USB 2.0 port, the maximum resolution will go down to 1080p60.

The remaining technical specs go as follows:

  • Sony Stravis 2 CMOS sensor 1/1.8″
  • Aperture: f/4.0
  • Focus type: Fixed
  • Focal length: 21 mm | .83 in (full-frame equivalent)
  • Focus range: 30 – 120 cm (11.8 – 47.2 in) at 4K resolution, 25 cm (9.8 in) – infinity at 1080p resolution
  • Field of view: 90°

These can be adjusted via the free Camera Hub, where you can control settings such as shutter speed, ISO, saturation, and more. When done, don’t forget to save your settings to the built-in flash memory to keep them safe.
