Kioxia unleashing Exceria Pro G2 Gen 5 SSD lineup boasting up to 14.9GB/s speed and 4TB capacity

An SSD that offers large capacities and flagship performance in a space- and power-efficient design.

Kioxia has announced the Exceria Pro G2, its new performance flagship targeting enthusiasts and professionals. Powered by a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface and Kioxia’s TLC NAND, this M.2 drive delivers up to 14,900MB/s transfer speed on supported devices. Whether you want to boost the performance of your workstation or simply want to upgrade your PlayStation console, its specs look suitably robust.

Exceria Pro G2 stands at the top of Kioxia’s personal SSD lineup, complementing the value-oriented Exceria Basic (PCIe 4.0), balanced Exceria G3 (PCIe 5.0), and mainstream Exceria Plus G4 (PCIe 5.0) series. It leverages Kioxia’s BiCS FLASH TLC 3D memory and a PCIe 5.0 controller to maximise performance in a compact 80.15 x 22.15 x 2.63mm (M.2 2280) form factor. The series will be available in three capacities: 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB, giving you a nice range to choose from. That said, we would have liked to see an 8TB, which is rarely offered on lower-tier models.

In terms of sequential read speed, you can expect up to 14,400MB/s on the 1TB drive and whopping 14,900MB/s on the 2TB/4TB models. This is as good as it gets nowadays when using the PCIe 5.0 x4 interface. Regarding sequential write, Kioxia advertises up to 12,700MB/s, 13,400MB/s, and 13,700MB/s, respectively, for the 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB options. Again, among the best performances you can find outside of data centre-grade products.

Moving to random access, we get 2,000,000 read IOPS on the 1TB model, 2,250,000 read IOPS on the 2TB, and 2,300,000 read IOPS on the 4TB. Random write speeds are also very good, reaching 1,900,000 IOPS on the 1TB drive and 1,950,000 IOPS on the 2TB/4TB.

As for endurance, the brand claims 600TBW, 1,200TBW, and 2,400TBW (Terabytes Written) for each respective capacity. This is similar to what many competitors are offering and should be more than enough for most users. Lastly, typical power consumption during active use is said to hover between 8.4W and 9.6W.

“For gamers, creators, and tech enthusiasts, storage performance is no longer just a technical metric; it’s a critical component of the experience,” said Paul Rowan, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Kioxia Europe. “With the EXCERIA PRO G2, we are delivering uncompromising PCIe 5.0 performance.”

The Exceria Pro G2 series will be available sometime in Q4 2025 – not many days left, then – backed by a five-year warranty. While Kioxia hasn’t shared pricing for these SSDs yet, we can expect around £170 for 1TB, £250 for 2TB, and £410 for 4TB.
