With a 26.5in diagonal, the MAG 272QP QD-OLED X24’s panel rocks a native QHD (2560×1440) resolution. That’s my preferred pixel count for this monitor size, with a pixel density of 111PPI making for an appreciably sharp and suitably large screen for gaming. Those graduating from a 24.5in FHD (1920×1080) display will find it difficult to scale back down once they’ve experienced this form factor.
The monitor also offers a 240Hz refresh rate for butter-smooth motion clarity, providing you have the horsepower to run games at 240fps. However, you can expect a clean image regardless of your frame rate, thanks to QD-OLED’s near-instant pixel response times and lack of overdrive. You can kiss ghosting and overshoot goodbye on this screen.
The only major drawback of budget-friendly QD-OLED panels such as this one concerns brightness. On the monitor’s specifications page, MSI lists SDR brightness at a mere 200nits, with HDR pushing to 400nits. That’s quite dim relative to more expensive options, but still fine for an average room.
Otherwise, this screen will reward you with perfect black levels and a wide colour gamut. These credentials combined make for a spectacular viewing experience on QD-OLED panels, which are rich in contrast with wonderfully accurate vibrancy. While SDR content will look suitably strong on this monitor, I’d strongly recommend dabbling in HDR too, particularly to experience the elimination of blooming via per-pixel local dimming.
In terms of connections, there are no USB ports for peripherals, but MSI outfits the MAG 272QP QD-OLED X24 with two HDMI 2.1 inputs, a lone DisplayPort 1.4a socket, and a USB-C connector with DP Alt mode. Any of these inputs can handle the monitor at its maximum resolution and refresh rate, and there’s even a Console Mode feature built into the display’s firmware to improve device compatibility.
Those concerned about burn-in needn’t be.
