We’re just a few short weeks away from the beginning of a new school year in the UK, and manufacturers have expectedly fired off a waterfall of deals aimed at students hungry for an upgrade. Separating the proverbial wheat from the chaff, one MSI QD-OLED monitor strikes me as a particularly delicious bargain.

MPG 272URX QD-OLED
“MPG 272URX offers flagship performance in a desk-friendly package.” Read our review.
On Amazon UK, the cost of MPG 272URX QD-OLED has crashed by a mighty 30% (£300.01) relative to RRP, and also marks the cheapest this monitor has ever been, at just £698.99. That’s a dizzying discount by any measure but particularly so for a display that launched only several months ago.
As its name suggests, MPG 272URX QD-OLED boasts a 27in self-emissive panel, complete with the latest generational improvements from Samsung Display. This is a pin-sharp and smooth screen, with native 4K resolution and 240Hz refresh rate.
What separates MPG 272URX QD-OLED from previous monitors using the same display technology, comes down to efficiency and higher pixel density. In short, these newer panels are up to 30% more efficient, reducing peak power consumption to as little as 65W by our counts.
Despite drawing less power, MPG 272URX QD-OLED still packs an exceptional viewing and gaming experience. Response times are near-instant across the refresh rate range, with brilliant motion clarity.
Of course, before you feel how good MPG 272URX QD-OLED is you’ll see it. Per-pixel local dimming delivers fantastic contrast both in SDR and HDR, with inky-blacks only this technology is capable of.

Colour accuracy is slightly unruly, with an average Delta-E of 3.40, but such small imperfections are largely imperceptible to all but the most-trained of eyes. You can expect this monitor to output pleasingly punchy images, thanks to a 98% coverage of DCI-P3.
Note, however, that living with QD-OLED monitors does come with some necessary accommodations. Chief among them is the ambient brightness of your room, as the panel shines brightest (pun intended) in darker environments.
The other is being mindful of burn-in. However, MSI equips MPG 272URX QD-OLED with plenty of protections, such as logo detection and more, which should make this less of a concern. Should you fall afoul of image retention, though, the monitor’s three-year warranty has you covered.
Even if you don’t currently have a system capable of saturating MPG 272URX QD-OLED’s specs, this is a monitor you’ll be able to squeeze years of use out of. 27in displays don’t come in higher qualities than this, and I heartily recommend picking one up if you can.
