SSDs are wonderful things, whether you’re adding more to your setup or finally pulling the trigger on that upgrade from an HDD. Not all solid state is equal in the making, of course, with models like 990 Pro proving a cut above the rest of their PCIe Gen 4 brethren. Now, that particular drive can be yours for cheap.

“A super-fast SSD bringing the best out of PCIe 4.0.” Read our review.

On Amazon US, 990 Pro 4TB with heatsink is available for $294.99. That’s an $80 (21%) saving from the SSD’s list price, and marks a return to its lowest ever cost.

Speaking from the experience of using 990 Pro as part of my motherboard reviews, in addition to digesting the results from our review and prebuild performance, I can heartily recommend this SSD. Though the drive is no longer one of the fastest on the market, in the wake of its PCIe Gen 5 successor, it still has plenty of speed and capacity that should sate of almost all folks.

Featuring sequential read and write speeds of up to 7,450MB/s and 6,900MB/s, respectively, 990 Pro is about as fast as PCIe Gen 4 SSDs get. That also places the drive well-clear of Sony’s requirement of 5,500MB/s for PS5 and comes with a built-in heatsink, meaning this storage is suitable for console and PC.

Complement those specs with 4TB of capacity, and you won’t have to worry about managing your game library to make room for other titles. Such space leaves room for all the important incidentals that quickly pile up, be that family memories or that folder of funny memes you’ve been building for years.

Samsung rates 990 Pro endurance at 2,400TBW, meaning you’d have to fill up the drive 600 times to put yourself out of coverage. More pertinently, the drive also comes with five-year limited warranty. You’re not likely to ever need it given how reliable SSDs are, but it’s good to have peace of mind.

A small bonus of opting for 990 Pro is support for Samsung Magician. I’ve used this software for over 10 years, dating all the way back to the first 2.5in SSDs, and it remains one of the best out there. From the dashboard, you quickly can monitor drive health as well as improve longevity through enabling measures like overprovisioning.
