We’re still a few weeks out from the deluge of deals Prime Day promises, but there are still bargains for the taking if you know where to look. If you’ve been patiently waiting for the price of SSDs to fall following recent surges, you’re in luck. Better still, Samsung’s top PCIe 4.0 drive, 990 Pro, is among the storage on sale.

“A super-fast SSD bringing the best out of PCIe 4.0.” Read our review.

Head over to Amazon US and you can add Samsung 990 Pro 2TB to your cart for just $149.99, netting you a 12% ($20) discount relative to its typical price. This is the most affordable the drive’s been in the region for all of 2025. Meanwhile, UK shoppers can pick up the SSD for £148, complete with a 19% (£34.99) saving from its RRP.

While PCIe 5.0 SSDs are naturally faster than 990 Pro, there are few if any Gen 4 drives that can compete with Samsung’s former champion. Boasting sequential read speeds of 7,450MB/s and writes of 6,900MB/s, this is as fast as PCIe 4.0 storage gets.

In our 990 Pro review, the SSD frequently sits towards the top of benchmark charts against PCIe 4.0 alternatives. The drive does particularly well in sustained production-oriented workloads, with excellent access time and average bandwidth. It’s an excellent choice for gamers too, delivering excellent loading times, second-only to WD_Black SN850X 2TB and the gaps between the two are minor.

Taking care of 990 Pro is a breeze thanks to Samsung Magician. The software remains our favourite of all the alternative applications offered by competitors. From this dashboard, you can track the health of your SSD as well as enhance its lifespan through features like overprovisioning.

Note that this variant doesn’t feature a built-in heatsink, so you’ll need to pair it with the passive heatsinks on your motherboard. On a similar note, should you want to pair the SSD with your PS5, you’ll need to install a third-party cooler. Thankfully, 990 Pro doesn’t require much power nor does it run particularly hot, so meeting its thermal is easy.

Every 990 Pro comes with a welcome five-year warranty period. I’ve personally never experienced any problems with Samsung storage, but it’s a solid offering for added peace of mind. The SSD is plenty hardy too, with an endurance rating of 1,200TBW.
