Impressive as PCIe Gen 5 SSDs are, price has classically proven something of an Achilles heel to such speedy storage. However, if there’s one sale that’ll bring prices to more affordable levels, it’s Prime Day. Like clockwork, the event has brought even the fastest drive to its knees, as WD_Black SN8100 has never been cheaper.

On Amazon US, you’ll find WD_Black SN8100 on sale for as little as $149.98. Of course, that only concerns the 1TB capacity model, with 2TB costing $189.99, and 4TB rising to $399.98. Regardless of which size you choose, though, this is the best price the SSD has ever been on the storefront. UK shoppers can get in on this action too, with all-time low pricing also hitting the region for the same capacities.

Boasting respective sequential read and write speeds of 14,9000MB/s and 14,000MB/s, there’s no faster SSD on the market today. Random performance is solid too, as WD_Black SN8100 clocks in at 2,300-2,400 IOPS.

More importantly, this is a Gen 5 drive that doesn’t guzzle power nor require intrusive cooling. WD Black SN8100’s need for speed only needs 6.2-7W of power behind it on average, and the SSD will run at a cool 55°C under load with the assistance of motherboard heatsinks.

Sandisk, the new stewards of the WD_Black brand, continue to offer excellent longevity and warranty coverage for this latest addition to the family. Per TB of capacity you can expect 600TBW of endurance, complete with a five year warranty to complement.

Note that you will need a motherboard with a free PCIe Gen 5 M.2 slot to get the most out of WD_Black SN8100. Running this speedy SSD in a PCIe Gen 4 expansion slot will work but speeds will drop dramatically to accommodate the lower bandwidth.

Prime Day’s not over yet, and we’re making sure we highlight as many worthwhile deals as we can before the sale comes to an end. Keep it locked to the Club386 Google News feed for the latest finds.
