Cyberpunk 2077 has received yet another update packing a bunch of features that offer users new ways to experience Night City, both in terms of in-game content and graphics enhancements. Update 2.3 brings much-awaited upscaling technologies to AMD and Intel users, alongside bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.
The biggest change in this update is the addition of AMD’s latest FSR 4 upscaling technology, offering much improved image quality and stability to Radeon users. This should bring AMD closer to parity with Nvidia which has enjoyed better upscaling for some time already, thanks to its Transformer DLSS 4 technology. Note however that FSR 4 is only compatible with AMD’s new Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs and will require installing the latest drivers. CD Projekt Red indicates that said drivers will become available at a later date.
Radeon 7000 and older hardware aren’t left aside either, as they get support for FSR 3.1 Frame Generation which decouples upscaling from frame generation, allowing AMD’s frame generation to be used with XeSS or native resolution. The same goes for Intel Arc owners who get access to XeSS 2.0 plus XeSS Frame Generation on compatible hardware. As for Nvidia, Update 2.3 fixes an issue where the DLSS preset would invisibly revert from the CNN model to the Transformer model after restarting the game, even though the UI still displayed the CNN model as active.
Those owning HDR10+ Gaming-certified Intel GPUs and displays can also experience an enhanced HDR experience that dynamically adjusts brightness and contrast for each frame. To enable this feature, your display must support the technology (Find My Display) and have Game Mode enabled. The last technology-related feature is for console players who get VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Once more, a compatible display is needed.
Other than this, the update fixes an issue where foliage was not properly affected by weather conditions on PlayStation 5. The game will now detect if the player is using inverted mouse button settings and automatically adjust in-game prompts accordingly. You get four new vehicles alongside the jobs tied to their acquisition. Not to forget new vehicle customisations and a much better Photo Mode.
Lastly, Update 2.3 also brings Cyberpunk 2077 to Apple M-series Macs, allowing more players to delve into the dystopian future of Night City. The game will be available to purchase via the App Store plus other third-party platforms. That said, if you already own the game on GOG, Steam, or Epic Games, you can play it from there. Update 2.3 will land on PC, PlayStation 5, plus Xbox Series X|S on July 17, and later on the Switch 2. Hopefully, this update won’t break many mods, as some may no longer be supported by their creators. This update may not be the last though, as CD Projekt Red is likely to release something to celebrate the game’s 5th anniversary on December 10. Wait and see.
