AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D now has a surprisingly low price

Cache in and save a load of money on AMD's acclaimed 8-core Zen 4 X3D gaming CPU, which is now going for just $324.99.

It’s turning out to be a top time to buy an AMD CPU, with the venerable Ryzen 7 7800X3D now joining the discount club. Amazon has just knocked the price of this gaming CPU with 3D V-Cache down to $324.99, which is a great deal for such a capable chip. This 8-core CPU may have since been usurped by the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, but it’s still a highly capable chip, and at this price, it’s over $100 cheaper than the new chip.

“Delicious in gaming.” Read our review.

The main bonus of this X3D chip, of course, is its use of AMD’s 3D V-Cache tech. There’s a whole 64MB slab of extra L3 cache sitting on top of this CPU’s 8-core chiplet, which massively reduces the likelihood of cache misses and the need for your CPU to page your slower system RAM to get data. This has a significant impact on gaming performance, with AMD’s X3D chips leading the pack when it comes to frame rates.

What you miss out on with the 7800X3D is clock speed, which was our main criticism of this chip in our original review, particularly as it cost $449 when it first came out. Price is no longer a major talking point when you can pick up this CPU for $324.99 (it usually fluctuates between $360 and $399 these days), but it’s still worth noting that it only boosts to 5GHz. All that cache means it remains an amazing CPU for gaming, but the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is stronger if you want a chip that can handle both gaming and productivity software, assuming you have the extra cash.

If gaming is your top priority, though, this is a fantastic price for an 8-core AMD CPU with 3D V-Cache. If you’re looking to build an 8-core gaming rig, but can’t afford the 9800X3D, or you want a solid upgrade from a low-end AM5 chip, such as the Ryzen 5 7600, this is definitely a deal to consider. Unsurprisingly, Amazon says this deal is selling fast, so it’s worth submitting your order sooner rather than later.
