Arctic launches its compact and affordable Freezer 8 CPU cooler series

Freezer 8A and 8i Series coolers could prove a godsend to builders on a budget, replacing ageing or altogether absent stock coolers.

Arctic has announced its Freezer 8 air cooler series targeting users in need of a small and affordable cooling for their AMD and Intel CPUs. They’re compatible both with current and prior generation sockets, making them an enticing option for systems new and old.

The Freezer 8 series include four models. Freezer 8A and 8A CO are for AMD CPUs, while Freezer 8i and 8i CO target Intel. CO stands for Continuous Operation and switch a few specifications up from base models to better accommodate systems that need to remain up and running for prolonged periods.

In terms of socket support, Arctic makes its Freezer 8 Series compatible with current and prior generation sockets. More specifically, Freezer 8A and 8A CO will play nice with Socket AM5 and AM4 motherboards. Meanwhile, Freezer 8i and 8i CO can pair with LGA1700 or LGA1851 boards.

Arctic specifically tunes each cooler for their intended processor brand. For instance, the manufacturer includes an optional offset for both Freezer 8A and 8A CO to create more efficient heat transfer between from the CPU hotspot. For Intel, Freezer 8i and 8i CO come with a specialised contact frame, a feature which is absent even on some expensive coolers.

Outside of these differences, all models are otherwise identical. Each cooler measures 83mm (L) x 108mm (W) x 136mm (H), and weighs 415g. Each sports two 6mm copper heatpipes that make direct contact with the CPU.

Each Freezer 8 cooler comes with a single 100mm PWM fan, which runs at speeds ranging from 200-2,300rpm. Arctic hasn’t disclosed noise levels, but 8A and 8i’s fluid dynamic bearings should run quieter than the dual ball bearing blowers on CO models. No cooler is complete without pre-applied thermal paste. Arctic applies a healthy dollop of its own MX-6 compound to all Freezer 8 models.

Freezer 8A and 8A CO will be available for €18.99 and €19.99, respectively. Freezer 8i and Freezer 8i CO are slightly more expensive at €19.49 and €20.49. Whichever you decide to pick up, though, will come with a six-year warranty.
