For the past several months, ASRock has been working hard to improve the quality and reliability of its AM5 motherboards through BIOS updates. The company has just released a new update, explicitly advising all owners of relevant boards to download and install it.
During Computex 2025, ASRock acknowledged reports of motherboard issues primarily affecting Ryzen 9000X3D processors. The reason behind scorched processors, according to the brand, was either due to user error, memory incompatibility, and problems with PBO settings, launching BIOS version 3.25 as a fix.
In that time, ASRock has released a ‘3.26’ revision, as well as ‘3.30’ that provided an update to AGESA. Now, the company is launching ‘3.40’, which tweaks memory and voltage parameters in the name of improved CPU and RAM stability.
Here are the ASRock BIOS 3.40 update highlights:
- Memory P-State set to Disabled by default: improves memory compatibility and stability.
- Adjust VDDCR_SOC Voltage parameters: enhances CPU operating stability.
Regardless of whether you’re rocking a Ryzen 5 7600X or Ryzen 9 9950X3D in your ASRock motherboard, I’d advise promptly updating to the latest BIOS. You can do so via ASRock Flashback or Instant Flash, depending on the feature set of your board.
ASRock plans to progressively roll out BIOS 3.40 to other AM5 motherboards. At the time of writing, these are the motherboards that currently have updated firmware available for download:
- X870 Steel Legend WiFi
- X870 Pro RS WiFi
- X870 Pro RS
- B850 Pro RS WiFi
- B850 Pro RS
- B850 Pro-A WiFi
- B850 Pro-A
- B850I Lightning WiFi
I’m glad to see ASRock continue to work on motherboard firmware. The company’s X870E Taichi Lite motherboard left a lasting positive impression on me, and I’d hate to see software let quality hardware down.
