Deal of the day: AMD’s newest X3D gaming CPU falls to best price

AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D - £219.

AMD’s 5000 Series X3D CPUs have generated a cult-like following, and with good reason. That extra layer of stacked L3 cache works wonders with gaming workloads, empowering a seemingly mid-range CPU with chart-topping credentials.

Well aware of ongoing demand for potent gaming CPUs that don’t break the bank, AMD revisited its previous-generation 5000 Series stack with the addition of the Ryzen 7 5700X3D earlier this year. Intended to be the most affordable X3D processor to date, the new chip struggled to make a splash, with launch pricing sat a little too close to Ryzen 7 5800X3D for our liking.

Nothing a price cut can’t solve, and as of today Amazon is shifting the goalposts with welcome reductions in multiple regions. Here in the UK Ryzen 7 5700X3D has dropped from £239 to £219, while across the pond our US readers can bag said chip for $229. Both are the lowest prices on record, representing a solid final upgrade path for users on the mature AM4 platform.

Despite its age, AM4 remains a go-to solution for DIY builders seeking the optimal balance of low price and high performance. To recap, 5700X3D is eerily similar to the acclaimed 5800X3D. Both employ an eight-core, 16-thread configuration, with the vaunted 96MB of L3 cache. What sets the two apart is clock speed, with boost frequency snipped from 4.5GHz on 5800X3D to 4.1GHz on 5700X3D. Processor TDP remains unchanged at 105W.
