Gigabyte joins the 27in QD-OLED 500Hz monitor club in consummate style

Gigabyte opens a window into your games’ world, giving you silky smooth visuals alongside QD-OLED’s excellent colours and black levels.

Gigabyte has launched the Aorus FO27Q5P, a 500Hz OLED-based gaming monitor with all the features needed to deliver a top-level experience. Thanks to its high refresh and quick response times, the FO27Q5P represents the pinnacle of QD-OLED displays. Like its competitors, it combines great colour and brightness capabilities with a reasonable resolution, which is easier to drive by current machines.

The Aorus FO27Q5P is a one-stop shop for all your gaming needs. It offers sharp and clear visuals thanks to its 27in QD-OLED panel, rated for 500Hz refresh and 0.03ms GtG pixel response. While the 2560×1440 QHD resolution isn’t the highest, it’s perfectly suitable for the 27in size. And besides, you won’t find any commercially available 500Hz QD-OLED that goes beyond this resolution anyway. In other words, this is as fast as it gets. So, if you are a competitive player or simply like to have the best image clarity during intense action, this one is made for you.

Speed aside, this monitor is also great when it comes to the image quality and fidelity, as it boasts 99% DCI-P3 colour coverage, calibrated to a Delta E below 2. In terms of brightness, Gigabyte announces 300nits in SDR and 1,000nits peak in HDR. This combination allows the Aorus FO27Q5P to claim the VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification in addition to the VESA ClearMR 21000 – a first on a Gigabyte monitor.

The third aspect that many will be pleased with is the presence of the latest DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR 20 interface, offering 80Gb/s of bandwidth to transmit uncompressed video feeds. And in case that’s not enough, you also get a KVM switch alongside the handy Picture in Picture and Picture by Picture modes. Still not enough? How about daisy-chaining multiple monitors using the built-in DisplayPort-out port to make your multi-monitor setup cleaner than ever?

To ensure these qualities are maintained for as long as possible, Gigabyte is once more incorporating its intelligent protection and automation features, including AI OLED Care, which runs pixel-cleaning routines to reduce burn-in risk. There’s also AI Picture Mode, which detects content type and automatically adjusts colour and brightness for optimal viewing.

The Aorus FO27Q5P connectivity is also so extensive that you may mistake it for a TV. Namely, you get two HDMI 2.1, one DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR 20, one MiniDP 2.1 UHBR 20, one USB Type-C with DP Alt mode, the aforementioned DisplayPort 1.4-out for daisy-chaining monitors, a two-port USB hub, plus mic/headphone jacks. Two 5W speakers are also present if you need them. Lastly, in terms of ergonomics, you get from -5° to +20° tilt, 20° swivel, 90° pivot, and 130mm height adjustments, plus the usual 100mm VESA mount.

I think Gigabyte’s design is overall among the best, giving the screen that thin effect on the edges while keeping a sober, less-gamery style. Even the RGB strips don’t look too absurd. The Aorus FO27Q5P can be found around €999, backed by a 3-year warranty that includes burn-in coverage.
