LG reveals world-first FHD 1,000Hz gaming monitor, launching in 2026

There's no word on how much the UltraGear 25G590B will cost, but this boundary-pushing monitor will likely cost a pretty penny.

LG has just announced the first-ever gaming monitor to combine a 1,000Hz refresh rate with a 1920×1080 resolution. LG describes the UltraGear 25G590B as “a new performance benchmark for competitive gaming”, and it’s difficult to argue with that sort of speed on offer.

While you’ll find several dual-mode 1,000Hz monitors on the market today, all require compromises on resolution. More specifically, these displays run at 500Hz with a 2560×1440 resolution, with 1,000Hz only available if you drop the resolution to 1280×720. Given that these monitors use 27in panels, running them at 1,000Hz/720p results in a less-than-optimal pixel density of 54 pixels per inch (PPI), massively reducing the sharpness and even legibility of text and targets in some games.

However, with its 24.5in panel and native FHD/1,000Hz combo, the UltraGear 25G590B doesn’t suffer from the same disadvantage. While the screen size is smaller, it promises 92PPI, thanks to that higher resolution, boosting sharpness by 70% in real terms, making it much easier to distinguish targets from their surroundings.

As much as I’m excited about getting hands-on with the UltraGear 25G590B, there are still a few key details that LG is yet to reveal about this monitor. We know the company expects to release it in the second half of 2026, but there’s no word on pricing. However, I’d expect a world-class panel to command a large premium.

Importantly, we also don’t yet know how the 1,000Hz panel holds up in terms of response times nor gamut. The former of the two is crucial in dictating the success of this refresh rate, as there’s little joy in enjoying the motion clarity brought by so many hertz if that comes part and parcel with ghosting and other artefacts. While I have faith LG won’t saddle the UltraGear 25G590B in such a way, nothing is certain until launch.

While we all patiently wait for this monitor to arrive, check out my MSI MPG 271QR QD-OLED X50 review to learn more about how the fastest OLEDs right now shape up.
