Western Digital has announced the relaunch of its G-Drive product series, targeting the external storage needs of professionals and content creators. The lineup focuses on high capacity, fast performance, and reliability, aiming to give creators a platform they can trust.
Following its separation from SanDisk in late February 2025, Western Digital is reviving its G-Drive brand in a move to streamline its portfolio under a single name, including the G-Drive ArmorATD, G-Drive Project, and G-Raid Shuttle lineups. As a result, the series now tops out at up to 208TB of storage capacity, powered by enterprise-class Ultrastar drives. There is a product for each business class, though, from individual creators to high-value production studios.

This new branding will replace Sandisk’s Professional branding across Western Digital’s pro-level storage lineup, from portable rugged drives to multi-bay RAID systems. Western Digital has indicated that its G-Drive series will continue to support the full creative lifecycle, from on-set capture and real-time editing to backup and post-production. Be it high-resolution photography, video production, graphic design, or audio engineering, Western Digital aims to have a G-Drive product that’s up to the task.

The initial G-Drive lineup includes:
- G-Drive ArmorATD: A rugged portable/backup drive, offering 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, 5TB, or 6TB of storage capacity, priced from $109.99 to $239.99. Powered by USB-C and protected with a triple-layer shock-resistant aluminium enclosure rated for IP54 dust/water protection. Aimed at mobile workflows, including Mac devices.
- G-Drive: A high-capacity desktop drive made from enterprise-class Ultrastar HDDs, offering 6TB, 8TB, 12TB, 18TB, 22TB, 24TB, and 26TB, with prices ranging from $244.99 to $674.99. Mac-ready and Time Machine compatible, this lineup focuses on sustained performance for video editing and simple backups using USB-C.
- G-Drive Project: A single-bay Thunderbolt 3 desktop product powered by enterprise-class Ultrastar HDDs, available in 6TB, 8TB, 12TB, 18TB, 22TB, 24TB, and 26TB capacities, priced from $424.99 to $899.99.
- G-RAID Project 2: An upgraded version of the G-Drive Project, featuring a compact two-bay design, supporting RAID 0 and field-swappable enterprise-class Ultrastar drives. This lineup offers 16TB, 24TB, 36TB, 48TB, or 52TB in RAID 0, 1, or JBOD, priced from $934.99 to $1,654.99 on the 48TB model. The 52TB model is only available through inquiry. With its Thunderbolt 3 connectivity and combined drive speed, Western Digital says the G-RAID Project 2 can handle demanding workloads such as 8K or VR videos.
- G-RAID Shuttle 4 & 8: A transportable storage array offering 4-bay and 8-bay with hot-swappable enterprise-grade Ultrastar drives, available in 24TB, 48TB, 72TB, 80TB, 96TB, 104TB, 144TB, 160TB, 192TB, and 208TB, at prices ranging from $2,669.99 to $9,224.99. Daisy-chainable up to five additional devices and supporting anything from RAID 0 to JBOD modes. The G-RAID Shuttle aims to offer the ideal transportable storage, with enough speed and connection options for on-set data management and multi-camera productions.

“G-DRIVE has become synonymous with reliable, high-capacity, high-performance storage for all creatives and all stages, from enthusiast to professional,” said Darrin Bulik, director of product management at WD. “By consolidating our content creator storage portfolio under this established and trusted brand, we’re honoring that legacy while leveraging WD’s industry-leading storage innovations to deliver the tools creators need to bring their vision to life. This commitment means more product choices now, and in the future, backed by the quality and reliability that creators depend on.”
Note that while rebranded products have already begun shipping, Western Digital will continue the support and warranty coverage of existing Sandisk Professional HDD-based products.
