Xbox Series S sale is a must-have at its current price

Affordable gaming just got even cheaper.

Xbox Series S looks fantastic with a discount.

Xbox Series S is a fantastic little powerhouse. Not only is it the cheapest way to get into modern gaming, it can also handle all your streaming needs, from Netflix to Spotify. It’s already the most affordable current-gen console alongside Nintendo Switch, but its latest discount sees it drop close to its lowest price ever.

Chopping 17% off, Amazon US shoppers can grab the 512GB Xbox Series S for just $249.99. This is $11 off its lowest price ever and you’ll even get three months of Xbox Game Pass for free. Over on Amazon UK, the same console is 16% cheaper at £209.99.

The newer black 1TB model has also seen its first discount. In the US, you can get 8% off, bringing it down to $349. It’s not currently reduced in the UK, but this isn’t too surprising given it only released in September.

Since the mightier Xbox Series X is also reduced, you have a choice on your hands. The Series S is the same console that can play all the same games, with a few things trimmed back.

Xbox Series X

“Discover the fastest, most powerful Xbox ever with the Xbox Series X. Enjoy 4K gaming at up to 120 frames per second with access to the best value games subscription service out there.”

Series S sticks to digital-only, dropping the disc drive. This means you can’t trade in your games, but you get a neater, smaller form factor as a result. The version on sale has half the storage capacity, but you can always increase this with an expansion card. It also opts for four Teraflops instead of 12. This is a big reason why Series S caps out at 1440p resolution, while Series X reaches 4K.

The easiest way to make the choice is looking at your current display. If your TV or monitor is HD 1080p and you don’t plan on upgrading any time soon, Series S is a clear winner. If you’re already eyeing up a new screen or own 4K, then Series X might be the play. The more you save, the more you can put toward an Xbox Elite Series 2 controller. Surprise, surprise, it’s also at its lowest price ever, and well worth the money.

Whichever you get, I recommend pairing it with an Xbox Game Pass subscription. It grants you access to hundreds of games you can either download or stream. Microsoft even releases new titles onto the membership the day they launch, costing you no extra.
