MSI celebrates a decade of Godlike with 1,000 limited edition motherboards

There are Godlike motherboards and then there are limited edition Godlike motherboards.

After getting a glimpse of MSI’s upcoming X870E Max motherboards, the brand also offered me a look at MEG X870E Godlike X. Naturally, I more than happily obliged, although I’ve had to contend with serious FOMO ever since laying hands and eyes on the board.

Since my MEG X870E Godlike review, practically all motherboards that have crossed my path since have paled in comparison. This ‘X’ variant, celebrating a decade of Godlike SKUs, includes limited edition goodies and flair that make it all-the-more desirable as a showpiece.

You’ll be able to identify any MEG X870E Godlike X by printing on the PCB, but the motherboard’s unique M.2 heatsink will sooner capture your attention. I must stress the use of unique here, as each will differ from others around the world through their numbering.

The pre-production model above is number zero of 1,000, but final production units will each carry their own identifier. I’m sure collectors will prefer to own as close to ‘0001/1000’ as possible, but just knowing there’s so few out there would be enough for me.

If you’d prefer to showcase the limited edition nature of the motherboard, MEG X870E Godlike X comes with a showpiece stand complete with power for those shiny LEDs. MSI includes a separate ‘Godlike Limited’ heatsink that you can pop on to your board while you proudly show off the other.

Other goodies include a wrist lanyard for your phone, mirroring the black-gold stylings of MEG X870E Godlike X. You’ll also find some thematic keyrings in the box too.

My favourite of the bunch, though, has to be the black Lucky plushy. It’s cute seeing MSI’s iconic dragon mascot donning a new colour scheme, and I’d love to see more efforts to include him across other products (limited or otherwise).

MEG X870E Godlike X is every bit as feature-rich as the standard motherboard. Niceties including Dynamic Dashboard III, EZ Link, and M.2 Xpander-Z Slider Gen5 all make a return. Better still, all of MSI’s EZ DIY suite returns such as toolless M.2 installation, GPU release, and more.

Of course, much of what makes MEG X870E Godlike X so attractive is the promise of flagship performance. MSI has already put that to the test and then some, achieving a new world record for Ryzen 7 9700X CPU frequency, pushing the chip to a whopping 7,304.38MHz. You can thank the bulletproof 24+2+1 phase design with a 110A SPS for providing the base for such a feat.

MSI is yet to disclose when it will launch MEG X870E Godlike X, or how much one of these limited edition motherboards will cost. However, if you’re hoping to grab one for your setup, I’d keep your eyes peeled and a chunk of change ready as I imagine they’ll fly off the shelves.
