AMD Ryzen 5 7500X3D just plummeted to its lowest price ever

You'll need to magic up some DDR5 memory to go with it, though.

Buying a new AMD Ryzen gaming CPU with 3D V-cache has suddenly become a whole lot cheaper, as the 7500X3D price has just nosedived from £247 to just £208.52. That’s a 16% drop in the space of just a couple of months, and it’s already the lowest ever price we’ve seen for this CPU on Amazon by a long way. There’s just one problem: this CPU requires DDR5 memory, and that’s not exactly cheap at the moment.

As we’ve seen over the last few weeks, RAM prices are skyrocketing, thanks to large quantities of DRAM being bought up for AI data centres. That creates a less-than-ideal market for the 7500X3D, as this budget-focused 6-core chip is based on AMD’s ageing Zen 4 architecture, and is the sort of CPU you’d use for a new build, rather than an upgrade. After all, there aren’t many people who bought a Ryzen 5 7600X a couple of years ago and will now want to swap it for a 7500X3D.

If you do already have some DDR5 RAM, though, perhaps if you bought a DDR5-based Intel 12th-gen Core i5 system a few years ago, then this CPU offers a great route into AMD’s AM5 platform. As we found in our 7500X3D vs 7800X3D benchmarks feature, even at MSRP, the 7500X3D offers great bang per buck.

It may only have six cores and a comparatively low 4.5GHz boost clock, but it still has a massive 64MB slice of extra L3 cache under its core chiplet, and that makes all the difference in games. In fact, in some titles, including Cyberpunk 2077, there was barely any difference at all between the 7500X3D and the 5GHz 7800X3D with its two extra cores.

If you’re looking to build a new budget gaming rig, and you’re lucky enough to have some DDR5 RAM handy, then this chip is a bargain at its new price of £208.52. Comparatively, AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D goes for £334.93, so you’re saving a huge amount of money by going for this cheaper chip at its new price.

If you’re still using a DDR4 system, and you find the current price of DDR5 memory depressing, don’t fret. Check out our guide to buying the best DDR4 CPU to see if there’s a new chip that will suit your needs, and let’s hope that AMD does bring back 5800X3D to provide owners of older systems with an affordable X3D upgrade path.
