Two years on from launch, Helldivers 2 is finally upping its technical credentials with support for upscalers from AMD, Intel, and Nvidia. Better still, these aren’t the only performance enhancing features that will arrive in the upcoming patch, but one feature remains curiously absent.
Developer Arrowhead Game Studios announced the upcoming changes via a Steam blog post, which are due to take effect in a patch on May 27. The studio says this is “the opening salvo in an ongoing campaign to improve performance”, working in collaboration with resident PlayStation PC specialists Nixxes to uplift Helldivers 2.
More specifically, Helldivers 2 will support Nvidia DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR 4.0.3 and 3.1.5, as well as Intel XeSS 3.0. These are the latest versions available for each upscaler, bar one, with the developer curiously falling short of implementing FSR 4.1. Regardless, all will provide a massive image quality boost relative to the current unnamed upscaling method, which is frankly an eyesore by today’s standards.
Both console and PC players can look forward to dynamic resolution scaling (DRS) too, making these upscalers all the more versatile and useful in hitting performance targets. Meanwhile, Variable Rate Shading (VRS) should eek out a few extra frames too.
Arrowhead isn’t stopping there, promising Nvidia Reflex and AMD Anti-Lag 2 support as well. Strangely, though, there’s no sign that the developer is deploying any sort of frame generation to the battlefield, but the groundwork will most certainly be in place following this update.
As one of the many tens of thousands of Helldivers 2 players still doing their part to protect our liberty, I’m glad to see these frequently requested features finally arrive. I’m all the more curious to see what Arrowhead has in the works too. I know I wouldn’t mind some ray tracing eye-candy to add to my democratic arsenal.
