AOC fights on price with its new dual-mode 720Hz WOLED gaming monitor

AOC's new series of OLED monitors is built for speed and image clarity, with both 540Hz and 720Hz modes available.

AOC has just launched its first Agon 7 dual-mode display powered by Tandem WOLED technology, with a seriously competitive price of £699. The Agon Pro AGP277QKDC is designed to be a one-stop shop for anyone who cares about speed and image clarity, with a choice of 540Hz and 720Hz modes.

The AOC Agon Pro AGP277QKDC’s MSRP of £699 is as cheap as it gets for such specs. The Asus ROG Swift PG27AQWP-W costs £948.98, for example, while the LG UltraGear OLED GX7 27GX790B costs £899.99. However, if you’re quick, you can currently pick up the latter for £649.99 on Prime Day. When it comes to MSRP, though, this new AOC monitor looks seriously competitive.

Its 26.5in (2560×1440) QHD panel provides a reasonably sharp resolution, without being too hard on your graphics card, although you’ll need some hefty GPU power to hit its 540Hz refresh rate. If you want the ultimate fast-paced performance, though, you can switch to this monitor’s 720Hz mode, which drops the resolution to a chunky 1280×720.

As usual for an OLED monitor, AOC claims this panel has a 0.03ms grey-to-grey pixel response time. This should suffice to display each frame clearly, even when using the fast 720Hz mode. Active refresh rate tech, including Nvidia G-Sync, is also available to ensure a fluid and tear-free experience.

In addition to its high speed, the AGP277QKDC is geared up for HDR content, thanks to its 4th-gen Tandem WOLED technology. Its advanced stacked-layer design allows this panel to reach high brightness levels, rated at 1,500nits at 1.5% APL, 600nits at 10% APL, and 335nits at 100% APL, all while maintaining deep black levels.

AOC also indicates that this four-stack WOLED design helps with panel longevity and reliability by distributing the emissive workload across multiple layers. Meanwhile, AOC says its OLED Care maintenance protocols are designed to preserve the 1,500-nits peak luminance and colour accuracy for years to come.

Due to its higher brightness capabilities, the AGP277QKDC boasts VESA’s DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification, which is as good as it gets until the first True Black 600 panels hit the market.

Although this screen is primarily marketed at gamers, the AGP277QKDC can also do a lot of colour-critical work thanks to its 99.5% DCI-P3 gamut coverage. It even comes factory-calibrated and ships with a dedicated calibration report.

In terms of connections, we find two HDMI 2.1 ports, plus one DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20) input for gaming at high refresh rates, alongside a USB-C socket with 65W power delivery, allowing video, data transfer, and laptop charging simultaneously. Plus, for the multi-taskers out there, you get an integrated KVM switch, alongside a three-port USB hub for easy dual-PC control using PiP or PbP modes. Lastly, there is an audio jack plus two 5W speakers.

Moving to ergonomics, we find AOC’s symmetrical pro stand, which is designed to leave ample space for keyboard and mouse placements. It can be adjusted by 150mm in height, with up to 90° pivot, 30° swivel, and -5-23° of tilt movement available.
