We’ve just spotted a mind-blowingly good CPU deal on Amazon at the moment, where you can pick up an AMD Ryzen 5 9600X CPU for only £135.50. That’s very nearly half price if you compare it to the original £270 MSRP, and it’s a good £50 cheaper than the usual ~£185 price we usually see for this CPU these days. You will need to get your trigger finger ready on the Buy button, though, as at the time of writing, 82% of these discounted CPUs have already gone.

This CPU got off to a difficult start when it launched, as the MSRP was so expensive for a 6-core chip, but a dramatic fall in price since has made it our budget CPU recommendation on our guide to buying the best CPU. At a price of just £135.50, though, it’s an absolute steal. Unlike some of AMD’s cheaper CPUs (such as the Ryzen 5 8400F), the 9600X features a full 32MB of L3 cache rather than just 16MB, making it a stronger chip for gaming. Its six cores are also based on AMD’s latest Zen 5 architecture, which has really strong performance.
Unlike its predecessor, the 7600X, the 9600X has a TDP of just 65W, meaning you won’t need a large, expensive CPU cooler to keep it in check. There isn’t a heatsink included in the box, though, so check out our guide to buying the best CPU cooler to find a model that’s up to the job.
Why is this CPU suddenly so cheap? We’re guessing that high RAM prices are a factor here, as you’ll need to buy new DDR5 memory if you’re upgrading from a DDR4 rig. There’s also now a key threat to the 9600X from Intel’s new Core Ultra 5 250K Plus, which offers loads more cores for just £209. That’s a big threat to the Ryzen 5 9600X at its usual price, but at £135.50 the 9600X is a no-brainer – it’s a fantastic budget CPU at that cost.
