The top gaming CPU for any AM4 PC just got a little cheaper, with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition now retailing for $339.95 on Amazon. The processor’s sat just under its launch MSRP for a little over a month, but has finally returned to its lowest ever price, making now an opportune time to seize the chip for your DDR4 rig.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D

“If you have an AM4 motherboard, and you want to squeeze some extra gaming performance out of your system, the 5800X3D remains the best way to do that.” Read our analysis.

The 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition is identical to the original 3D V-Cache processor that launched way back in 2022. Despite AMD releasing several other chips Ryzen 5000 series chips, none have dethroned this one from its gaming throne. Without mincing words, this is the CPU to get if you want to maximise frame rates on your AM4 system.

In terms of raw specifications, the processor sports eight Zen 3 cores, 16 threads, a maximum boost clock of 4.5GHz, and 96MB of L3 cache. As we note in our 5800X3D vs. 9800X3D head-to-head, this setup does put the CPU on the backfoot relative to modern chips in terms of professional multi-core workloads, but is still plenty powerful to drive games at high frame rates.

A bar chart demonstrating the performance difference between the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D (blue) and 9800X3D (pink), in Rainbow Six Siege.

Rainbow Six Siege happily makes use of both 3D V-Cache as well as any available cores and threads. As you can see from the chart above, paired with a GeForce RTX 5070, the 5800X3D is a mere 7.3% behind its proverbial grandson.

This result is a best-case scenario for the 5800X3D, but we found the processor is more often than not capable of keeping on the Ryzen 7 9800X3D‘s coattails in a midrange system.

It’s worth noting that while the 5800X3D 10th Anniversary arrives with a thermal pad, it doesn’t come with a stock air cooler, requiring something capable of handling its 105W TDP. Finding such a model isn’t difficult, but the denser the radiator or heatsink you can throw at the chip the better.
