Deal of the day: 12GB Radeon RX 7700 XT drops to best-ever price

Prime candidate for best sub-£350 graphics card.

Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT - now £322.

Word on the grapevine is that AMD is shifting its attention away from high-end PC graphics to focus on mainstream solutions. Enthusiasts will quibble, but the news will be welcomed by those who feel priced out of gaming in general.

These past few weeks have unearthed a few genuine bargains among existing Radeon stock, and the good deals keep coming. Browsing the virtual shelves today, we’ve stumbled upon Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT, whose price has plummeted to £322 at Amazon UK. The very same card still retails for £450 at other outlets, highlighting the scale of the discount.

Launched this time last year, RX 7700 XT is built on the latest-generation RDNA 3 architecture and delivers 3,456 stream processors, 54 dedicated RT cores and 12GB of GDDR6 memory in an efficient 245W package.

A lukewarm reception 12 months ago can be attributed to the original $449 / £419 MSRP, but fast forward to today, and a near-£100 discount makes it a far more attractive proposition. Granted, they’re not as drop-dead gorgeous as Sapphire’s Frostpunk edition, but they’ll give your games the same polish.

The saving also happens to come just hours after Sony unveiled the PS5 Pro game console at £699. Club386 readers have largely scoffed at that amount, and those contemplating a gaming PC instead ought to take a closer look at 7700 XT as a foundation on which to build.

Whether or not such large reductions become available in other regions remains to be seen. At the time of writing, RX 7700 XT cards fetch roughly $349 across the pond or €399 on the continent.

Next-generation 8000 Series cards are widely expected to debut early in 2025, yet if you’re inclined not to wait, there are finally some decent 7000 Series deals to write home about.

[Update] Don’t hang around too long. The price has already gone up a fraction to £340 since publishing and may continue to fluctuate. I recommend copping it sooner rather than later and leaning on Amazon’s 30-day return policy if you’re not happy.

[Update – 12/09/24] Pricing at Amazon UK has steadily returned to over £400 for the Sapphire Pulse card. Other 7700 XT models are still available for under £380, and there’s also an option for a US import at £333.
