Gigabyte has announced a new lineup of external GPU boxes designed to bring the power of desktop graphics cards to laptops. The appropriately named Aorus GeForce RTX 50 Series AI Box devices contain GPUs powered by Nvidia’s latest Blackwell architecture, with a variety of options available.
To begin with, Gigabyte is launching two models, the Aorus RTX 5090 AI Box measuring 189 x 302 x 172mm and the Aorus RTX 5060 Ti AI Box measuring 243.7 x 117.4 x 48.2mm. Unsurprisingly, the Aorus RTX 5090 AI Box is the flagship model, powered by Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5090 GPU and 32GB of memory. It delivers over 3,000 AI TOPS of FP4 compute power, which allows this box to support large language models (LLMs), generative AI, and inference, on top of creative work acceleration. This makes it ideal for getting an AI performance boost on any portable device.

On the other hand, the Aorus RTX 5060 Ti AI Box aims to augment laptops and ultrabooks that lack dedicated GPUs, bringing RTX 5060 Ti-class performance and 16GB of VRAM. Gigabyte presents this model as an option to enable 2K gaming, local image generation, 3D rendering, and even everyday AI tasks.
Gigabyte recommends installing Nvidia’s Studio drivers on these devices. On top of this, Gigabyte also provides its own software package, offering control over multi-GPU setups and enabling efficient resource allocation between your laptop’s internal GPU and the AI Box.

To ensure each GPU can deliver its maximum performance while remaining stable under heavy loads, Gigabyte has equipped both AI Box models with full-size cooling systems. The Aorus RTX 5090 AI Box gets the brand’s Waterforce AIO liquid cooler, featuring a 240mm aluminium radiator and two 120mm fans. Gigabyte says this design guards every critical component on the graphics card, be it the GPU, VRAM, MOSFETs, or other critical heat points.
As for the Aorus RTX 5060 Ti AI Box, this model adopts Gigabyte’s Windforce cooling system, combining the brand’s Hawk fans with server-grade thermal conductive gel and composite copper heatpipes to maintain long-term stability and low-noise operation.

The Aorus RTX 50 Series AI Box series comes equipped with a wide range of ports. Between the front and back, we count two Thunderbolt 5 sockets supporting USB 4 V2.0 and 100W Power Delivery 3.0, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C socket, an Ethernet port, three DisplayPort 2.1 outputs, plus one HDMI 2.1 port. Lastly, for power, the RTX 5090 box packs an 850W PSU, rated for above 90% efficiency, while the RTX 5060 Ti box makes do with a more appropriate 330W unit.

While Gigabyte didn’t share pricing for these external GPUs, we found a listing at £4,099.99 for the RTX 5090 AI Box and £728.99 for the RTX 5060 Ti AI Box.
