I can’t take my eyes off G.Skill’s new colourful and speedy Trident Z5 NeoX RGB RAM

Neooooooooooooooooooooooow(n).

Chances are the RAM sticks in your system is black, grey, or white. Your modules may have RGB LEDs to give them some extra flair, leaving shape and general design the only avenues manufacturers seem willing to use to differentiate their kits. G.Skill, however, wants to go completely against the grain and make memory a focal point of your next build through eye-catching colours.

It’s hard to miss G.Skill’s new Trident Z5 NeoX RGB RAM on the Computex showfloor, more specifically the neon green and orange sticks. These are unusual colour choices for memory but there’s no denying how striking they are resting outside of a system. However, they properly come to life slotted into the DIMM slots of a rig sporting a complementary theme.

While I love a sleek white build as much as the next enthusiast, it’s awesome to see these orange and yellow sticks in action. G.Skill has put together some systems with complementary lighting that provide a taste of their potential, but I can’t wait to see what creatives can do with these colourways.

Of course, G.Skill hasn’t forgotten to offer Trident Z5 NeoX RGB in black and white too. My favourite of the bunch, however, is a kit that dons a textured silver coating complete with a diamond-like diffuser for its LED. Set its lighting to a teal hue and you’re on your way to a Dark Souls themed build, evoking the appearance of a crystal lizard.

This RAM is more than just a pretty face, though. G.Skill plans to offer Trident Z5 NeoX RGB kits in 24GB capacities and speeds up to a whopping 10,600MT/s. Timings are on the looser side at CL58 to accommodate such transfer rates, but it’s impressive to see standard DIMMS with specs more typical of CUDIMM counterparts.

G.Skill didn’t share pricing or when it expects to bring this RAM to market, but it is keen to hear thoughts on its maverick colour choices. Personally, I’m all for more colour and unique memory in the space, even if it comes at a small premium and will be available in smaller quantities owing to their more niche appeal. Come launch, be sure to vote with your wallet.
