Philips launches lush 27in 5K monitor with built-in KVM and 96W power delivery

A monitor built for colour-critical work, it's equally at home with video conferencing and content consumption.

Philips has added a professional-focused monitor to its 7000 Series lineup that features a 5K resolution and excellent colour gamut coverage. The 27E3U7903 is a Calman Verified display built for colour-critical work such as video or image editing. It is also perfect for other tasks, especially those requiring teamwork, thanks to its built-in webcam and speakers.

The Philips 27E3U7903 is a 27in monitor boasting a 5K (5120×2880) resolution IPS panel. Its combination of size and resolution results in a 218PPI pixel density, allowing it to deliver sharp and clear images. Additionally, thanks to its 10-bit (8-bit + FRC) panel, it covers 100% of REC709, 99.5% of Adobe RGB, 99% of DCI-P3, 160% of sRGB, and 130% of NTSC colour gamuts. This makes it a strong solution for image and video editors, especially as it comes factory calibrated to a Delta E below 2 in sRGB. Since sRGB is still the dominant colour space on web content, you can be sure to have accurate colour reproduction. That said, a manual calibration may lead to even better accuracy.

The remaining specs are also good, with up to 500nits of brightness, 2000:1 contrast, 70Hz refresh rate, and 4ms GtG pixel response time. These allow the 27E3U7903 to claim the DisplayHDR 600 certification, noteworthy for those planning to consume general content. Understandably, higher brightness means more power consumption, with Philips advertising 42.46W under typical use and 0.5W in standby mode. That said, the PowerSensor 2 should make up for some of this, as it optimises energy efficiency by adjusting the screen brightness according to the user’s presence.

Image quality aside, the 27E3U7903 is also a strong multitasking monitor, capable of simultaneously displaying content from two sources using its Picture-by-Picture mode. This feature allows you to connect two machines and display their video feeds side by side. Better yet, a KVM switch is also present to simplify control of said machines, allowing you to jump from one to the other with a button press. If one of these sources is a laptop, you may even charge it via the Thunderbolt cable while displaying its content.

Those working in Teams, for example, will also be pleased to see the built-in 5MP webcam, making video conferencing seamless regardless of the circumstances. As soon as the camera detects more than one person, the picture frame gets automatically enlarged to fit all participants. Furthermore, those who prefer a more private conversation can instead hook up some headphones instead of using the built-in dual 5W speakers. As usual, the flicker-free and low blue light comfort features are included.

Connectivity-wise, we find one HDMI 2.1, one Thunderbolt 4 upstream with video and 96W power delivery, another Thunderbolt 4 downstream with video and 15W power delivery, a 1GbE LAN port, one 3.5mm audio jack, plus a three-port USB hub. For ergonomics, we get 150mm height adjustment, 90° pivot, and from -5 to +20° tilt. Though there is no swivel, the 100mm VESA mount is available for those who need more control.

The Philips 27E3U7903 is listed at German retailer LambdaTek for €1,101.99, but ordering is not yet available.
