Eagle-eyed viewers of Asus China’s extreme overclocking video for the 9850X3D spotted a folder, which appears to contain files pertinent to the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2. AMD has yet to confirm this CPU’s existence, but there seems to be little other reason for this team to have a folder titled ‘9950x3dv2’ on its desktop.
A little over five minutes into its overclocking showcase, the Asus China team switches camera perspectives to a desktop that showcases an impressive clock speed on the Ryzen 7 9850X3D via CPU-Z. It’s here we can see folders for that processor, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, and 9950X3D2, the latter of which I’ve circled in the image below this text.

While this leak doesn’t tell us anything new about AMD’s potential new flagship, it suggests Asus China is already testing the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2. Prior to making an appearance on Asus China’s desktop, the processor has shown up in EEC filings, and there have been well as 9950X3D2 Geekbench and PassMark entries as well. Suffice to say, it seems very likely that the CPU will see the light of day, but it’s unclear when exactly.
For those out of the loop, 9950X3D2 rumours claim this CPU will be a game-changer for 3D V-cache. AMD apparently plans to finally equip both CCDs (Core Complex Dies) on a 160-core CPU with these extra 64MB L3 cache dies, giving the processor an enormous 192MB of the speedy-fast stuff. However, the degree to which this change would benefit application and gaming performance remains unclear for the moment.
Outside of that change, though, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 will reportedly be similar to the 9950X3D, based on the leaks we’ve seen so far. That means 16 Zen 5 cores and 32 threads, although the alleged maximum boost clock of 5.6GHz is lower than 5.7GHz on the 9950X3D. Initial leaks claimed the new CPU has a 200W TDP, but subsequent benchmarks point to the CPU having the same 170W ceiling.
Given that AMD just launched the Ryzen 7 9850X3D, I doubt we’ll see the brand push Ryzen 9 9950X3D out the door so soon afterwards. As for when we might expect an official word on this rumoured dual 3D V-cache maverick, I suspect Computex 2026 is our best bet. With any luck, though, AMD could launch it earlier in the year.
