A PC modder has shared an unusual custom build, featuring a chassis made entirely out of RAM sticks. The mod uses 36 modules spread over four of its faces, combining a mix of UDIMM and SODIMM sticks to ensure total coverage.
Created by DaKrazyKid on Reddit, this contraption was inspired by the limited memory pool on Valve’s Steam Machine, which uses a single 16GB DDR5-5600 SODIMM module. The mod mimics the Steam Machine’s cubic layout, but instead of making do with a plastic frame, it’s built from some of the most expensive hardware components you can buy at current prices. The case is fully covered with a mix of laptop and desktop memory modules, spread between the front, top, and sides, including 16 RGB-lit sticks to give some flair.
Given current RAM prices, let’s hope these modules are defective, as that’s otherwise a very expensive gimmicky case mod. To give you an idea of how much it would have cost to build using functioning modules, based on 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 kits, this case would have cost around £6,000. And that’s absurd when you consider the mid-range specs of the machine.
Behind this removable RAM skin sits a mid-range PC config, comprising an undisclosed Intel Core i5 CPU, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 GPU, 32GB of Patriot DDR5-8200 memory, 2TB of PCIe Gen 4.0 SSD storage, an Asus ROG Strix B860-I mini-ITX motherboard, plus a 750W PSU. Ironically, the memory powering the machine doesn’t even have any RGB lighting.
Interestingly enough, the build is being announced as a worldwide giveaway, seemingly made in collaboration with SignalRGB, the app used to customise and sync the 16 outer modules’ RGB lighting. To participate, you just need to leave a comment under the related Reddit post before September 7, 2026.
If you like the idea of a RAM-covered PC, but don’t have £6,000 to spare, you can do the same using much more affordable DDR5 filler modules. Multiple brands offer these dummy sticks, including Corsair with its Vengeance RGB DDR5 Light Enhancement Kit, which costs around $35 for two decoy RGB modules.
