Despite continued radio silence from Valve on the exact launch date of its Steam Frame, at least one developer is confident we won’t be waiting too much longer for the VR headset. While no beans have been spilled on when the device will hit Valve’s Steam store, this developer is confident the release is “just around the corner.”
A recent trailer for VR game Gunman Contracts – Stand Alone ends with a release window that specifically ties it to the Steam Frame launch in 2026. Following the video’s publication, developer ANB_Seth stated on Discord that both they and publisher 2080 Games are “confident that a launch date for Frame is just around the corner.”
One could understandably dismiss this claim as both parties hoping for the best, as there’s been zero elaboration from Valve following its initial summer 2026 target. However, ANB_Seth doesn’t stop there, continuing to respond in a cryptic manner, suggesting some insider knowledge that can’t be revealed yet.
“As long as Valve has not announced any public information, so can’t I [sic]. So for now, the launch date is: Alongside Steam Frame,” says ANB_Seth. From this wording, it seems reasonable to presume that at least some developers may be aware of when this VR headset will hit the market, but understandably don’t want to ruin any relationships with Valve.
We know that Valve has been quietly assigning Steam Frame compatibility ratings to a number of games since late June. The company has also been putting together a reservation queue system for the VR headset, presumably identical to the one you currently need to enter to get your hands on a Steam Machine.
All signs point to an impending launch, but Valve has thus far managed to keep its Steam Frame launch and price plans under lock and key. There’s every chance that there’s nothing more than hope behind ANB_Seth’s statement, and we’ll simply need to wait and see for further leaks, or an official announcement, to prove otherwise.
